Springtime Trees
An Ode To The Trees Along My Driveway
The trees bear white flowers
Stars along arms of wood
Stretch frail green fingers
Like no creeping creature could
And into me such peace
These trees have imbued
Makes the grass all the softer
And the winter all the less shrewd
Because no one can stop
The spring from growing
Or the summer from shining
Or the wind from blowing
No one can stop the autumn either
Or glue the leaves back on
They’ll fade and fall in color
Until they’re all but gone
And yet again comes spring
A fragrant breath from earth
I celebrate this simple wonder
And each flower’s birth
Freedom can be stolen
And pain dealt by hand
But the spring cannot be harmed
And the earth is no man’s land
